MBT can be combined with automation to provide greater coverage and explore the system dynamicaly, until a certain criteria (e.g. time, edge coverage) is met. In that case, we can look at it as a way to cover more test scenarios through a dynamic test generation process.
There also additional benefits including better abstraction and collaboration/dicussion using a visual model, easier test automation maintenance, better use of available time to test complex scenario, and more.
