There are many options in terms of project organization, that you can discuss with the QA Manager: 

  • You can have Requirements, Tests issues and Defects in the same project
  • You can create different projects to separate those entities


For a basic setup, let's consider that you just want to enable Xray at in your existent existing projects and you don't need to create new projects.

Enable Xray Requirement Coverage

In the Project Administration page, select "Actions" at the top right-hand side.

Set your project as a Requirements project by choosing "Enable Xray Requirement Coverage,"

so the requirements are covered by tests.

Add Xray issue types to your schemes

Your team will need to create all the Xray issues inside the project you are enabling to use Xray. 

In order for this to happen, you need to make  Xray issue Types available in your "Issue Type Schemes" and in your "Issue type Screen Schemes".

Your team does not to use all Issue Types at their project. If you want to go for a simple approach you might only use - Test, Test Plan & Test Execution.

Tip

By performing this setting, the issues mapped as Requirements (

during Configuring

during Configuring Requirements & Defects step) can be covered by tests.

You can search, set as a Requirement Project and remove the requirement project definition

at JIRA

in Jira Administration > Manage Apps > Xray
