The Xray Exploratory App team proudly announces Xray Exploratory App Version 3. This version is available on Windows and Mac. 

This version marks a significant milestone in the Xray Exploratory App roadmap. We have been working hard to achieve our objective of launching a more collaborative exploratory testing tool that allows your team to access test session assets from anywhere and share them with other team members. With this update, Xray Exploratory App will enable your team to work together more efficiently and effectively.

The Xray Exploratory App now consists of two primary components: Desktop Application and Web Console. The Desktop Application is an evolution of previous app versions, and the Web Console is a web application that allows you to register as a user and manage your test sessions and Team Workspaces.

Release highlights 

User Registration

Xray Exploratory App introduces registration and authorization capabilities.

You will be able to register as a user and get a Personal Workspace to store your test assets (sessions and evidences).

The registered user will be able to:

  • Authenticate from anywhere,
  • Download the Desktop Application anytime without having to register again,
  • Join other Team Workspaces using the Xray Exploratory App and collaborate with other users.

Store Sessions on the Cloud

After registering, you will have access to Cloud storage space where you can store your sessions. The storage space is organized in a specific way:

  • One Personal Workspace - this is your private storage, and you will get it independently of the tier you subscribe to.  
  • Shared (Team) Workspace - as the name suggests, this kind of workspace is shared by the members of a team. You can access zero or several shared workspaces, depending on the tier you subscribe to and if you are invited to a shared workspace by an Administrator of those workspaces.

Workspaces are the base for collaboration in the Xray Exploratory App.

  • You can browse and manage the contents of a workspace using the Web Console. You can also access their content (open and save sessions) from the Desktop Application.

Manage your Team

Suppose you don't add a payment card until the end of the trial. In that case, you will lose the Team Workspace (and its contents). Still, you can continue using the app restricted to accessing only your Personal Workspace.

Starting the payment after the 30-day trial period allows uninterrupted use of the Shared Workspace.

Managing a Team Workspace enables you to:

  • Add/Remove users to your team (Admins and Users)
  • Set access permissions to their members

Users of the same workspaces can benefit from collaboration features like session sharing and take advantage of bigger storage space.

Import Sessions from your computer and store them in the cloud

Updating to the Xray Exploratory App Version 3 doesn't mean you cannot open your existing session files.  

The "Open From My Computer" feature enables you to import previous versions of session files and store them in your Cloud Workspaces.  

The other way around is also possible; you can download your session files to your computer from the Web Console.

These two features work as a backup mechanism for your session files.
