When creating a project in Jira you can select between a Team-managed project and a Company-managed project. If you are trying to set up Xray in a Team-managed project, you can easily get started without involving a Jira admin, but the changes will only affect your project.

To set up Xray in a Team-managed Project you need to:



Add Xray Issue Types


Download Issue Type Icons Here.


Navigate to “Issue Types” under “Project Settings”. Then, proceed by clicking on “+ Add Issue Type”.

Repeat the above step for each Xray Issue Type & add the corresponding icon.

 → Test

 → Pre Condition

 → Test Set

 → Test Plan

 → Test Execution

Map Xray Issue Types


Navigate to “Xray Settings” under “Project Settings”. Then, proceed by clicking on “Issue Type Mapping”.

Add the Issue types that were created earlier, based on each option available and then press Save.

Configure Requirements & Defects


Navigate to “Xray Settings” under “Project Settings”. Then, proceed by clicking on “Test Coverage” & "Defects Mapping".
