## Charters

According to ISTQB (International Software Testing Qualifications Board), a test charter is defined as *"A statement of test objectives, and possibly test ideas about how to test."*

Thus, a test charter is like a mission statement for an exploratory testing session.

## Sessions

A test session is an uninterrupted period of time spent testing and is focused on a charter. During a session, a tester follows a charter and records its execution.

Xray Exploratory App allows you to record audio and video, take screenshots, add notes, and upload any other evidence when executing a session. Additionally, it also generates reports of a session.

## Relationship between Charters and Sessions

A session can be explained as an instantiation of a charter, which means that a session is based on a charter.

The following figure illustrates the **creation of a Session** with its charter definition highlighted.
