# Introduction

The [Project Configuration](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAY/pages/301502467) settings control the availability and behavior of Test Organization features, including these two **independent** settings:

- [Test Repository](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAY/pages/301502655) (folder-based Test organization).
- [Test Plan Board](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAY/pages/301663993) (Kanban-style board for Test Plan management).

These settings affect how Test Plans display and function, particularly regarding sorting and ranking.

# Overview

## Test Repository

**Enable when:**

- Your team wants to organize Tests in a hierarchical folder structure.
- You need to categorize tests by feature, module, or custom taxonomy.
- You want a dedicated Test Repository menu for Test management.

**When disabled:**

- The Test Repository menu item isn’t visible in the top navigation menu.
- There are no folder organization features.
- Standard Test management remains fully functional.

**When enabled:**

- The *Test Repository* button appears in the left-side navigation menu (Figure 1 - 1). Click it, and you enter the Test Repository screen (Figure 2).
- The Folder picker is available when linking Tests to Test Plans.
- Tests can be organized in folders.
- Folder-based permissions can be configured.

## Test Plan Board

**Enable when:**

- Your team prefers visual board interfaces for Test organization.
- You want to use drag-and-drop on a board to prioritize Tests.
- The Test order is managed centrally via the board.

**Disable when:**

- Your team uses the Test Plan Issue view for Test management
- You want users to sort Tests by any column and persist that order.
- You want the *Rank* column visible in Test Plan Issue views.

**When enabled:**

The *Test Plan Board* button appears in the left-side navigation menu (Figure 1 - 1). Click it, and you enter the Test Plan Board screen (Figure 3).

In Test Plan Issue view (Figure 4):

- The *Rank*** **column is visible (Figure 4 - 1).
- Sorting by any column works (the sorting preferences persist across sessions).
- The *Apply Rank* button (Figure 4 - 2) appears when sorted by a non-rank column.
- The drag-and-drop Test reordering is enabled (when sorted by rank).
- You have full control over the Test order.
