# Release Highlights

## Improved Jira API Retry Behaviour

### What’s New

With this update, Xray continues to improve how it handles Jira API interactions under Atlassian's rate-limiting controls, building on the foundation introduced in the previous release.

- **Smarter caching across more interactions:** Xray now extends its caching layer to additional high-frequency Jira lookups, including user, project, and project identifier resolution. This reduces repeated calls during common operations and helps keep your Jira instance responsive, particularly on large projects with heavy reporting or automation activity.
- **Broader retry coverage for Jira rate limits: **We've expanded the unified outbound HTTP layer to cover the remaining Jira interaction paths that previously bypassed it. All requests to Jira now benefit from consistent retry handling that respects Atlassian's guidance, with progressive back-off to resume operations smoothly once limits ease. When retries are in progress, you'll see a clear in-app message letting you know operations are being retried due to Atlassian rate limits, and a follow-up message if an operation ultimately can't complete.
- **Resilient client-side requests:** Xray's own client-side traffic now flows through the same instrumented layer, so retries and rate-limit handling apply consistently across the product rather than only on selected paths. This means a more uniform experience when usage spikes, regardless of which Xray feature you're using.
- **Leaner reporting and webhook paths:** Driven by analysis of real-world enterprise workloads, we've trimmed unnecessary Jira API calls from key flows, including the Test Plans report and issue-created webhook handling. The result is significantly fewer API calls to Jira, lower quota consumption, and faster, more consistent performance as test repositories and activity volumes grow.
