Even for trying Xray, you need a trial license. More information can be found in the Xray section in [Atlassian's Marketplace](https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.xpandit.plugins.xray/server/pricing). **3 - Can I Renew my Xray Trial License?** For Cloud apps, you cannot extend your free evaluation period. But please reach out to Xray via the [Support Portal](https://jira.getxray.app/servicedesk/customer/portal/2), and we'll see the best way to help out. **4 - What Happens when my Xray License Expires?** If you have a paid or trial license and it expires, you won't be able to use the Xray app. **5 - What Happens if I Uninstall Xray?** If, for some reason, you need to uninstall Xray, you can do it safely by following the instructions [here](https://docs.getxray.app/space/ProductKB/46269207/[Xray+Cloud]+How+can+I+uninstall+Xray%3F+What+are+the+steps+needed+to+uninstall+Xray%3F). No relevant data is immediately removed from Jira. This means that Xray Work item types, custom fields, Xray settings, and all recorded information related to Testing are kept for 60 days. Note: If you uninstall and install Xray once again within that period, you shouldn’t notice any difference compared to the original experience.  **6 - How Can I Update/Upgrade my Current Version of Xray?** Upgrades are managed automatically by the Xray team, and the process is transparent to you. You can find the Release Notes [here](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/44565795/Release+Notes). **7 - Can I Send the Xray Team an Email?** You can contact Xray via the [Service Desk](https://jira.getxray.app/servicedesk/customer/portal/2), so the right person can properly address your question as soon as possible. **8 - I Would Like to See an Xray Demo. Xray Cloud integrates with Atlassian Cloud infrastructure; therefore, we'd recommend having a look at Atlassian documentation, especially their [Trust Center](https://www.atlassian.com/trust). # Onboarding **10 - How Can I Get Started with Using Xray?** [Demonstration Project](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/44565799/Demonstration+Project) is arguably the best way to get hands-on experience quickly. In parallel, you can leverage the *[Getting Started](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAYCLOUD/pages/44566361)* section (both in [this documentation](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/44566361/Getting+Started) and inside the tool, under Apps → Xray), which includes several interactive tours or videos. [Xray Academy](https://academy.getxray.app/) also provides important foundational knowledge and examples, especially the [Essentials](https://academy.getxray.app/plus/catalog/courses/126) and the [Governance](https://academy.getxray.app/plus/catalog/courses/167) courses. **11 - I Struggle with Efficiency Using Xray. Is there any Advice?** Xray versatility could be a bit of a double-edged sword, and the recommended process has several differences compared to other tools. Is there a Way to Migrate Data?** The answer depends on the exact scope of migration and the “origin” tool. But it can be helpful to understand the “base” [import capabilities](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/44565062/Importing+Tests+using+Test+Case+Importer) / [APIs](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/44574479/API) and to explore [more detailed examples](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/44565782/TTT+-+Migration). Does Xray Install or Enforce any Workflow?** Xray does not install any "default" workflow for the Work items it provides. You may define whatever workflow you think best suits your scenario/organization. Xray is workflow-aware, though, and provides some configurations specifically for that purpose (see *[Project Settings: Miscellaneous](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/44568490)* and *[Using Jira workflows for Testing purposes](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/44567832/Using+Jira+workflows+for+testing+purposes)*). **13 - Is it Possible to Use Time Tracking with Xray? Is it Possible to Log Time Associated with the Running of Test Runs?** Yes. Please refer to the *[Time Tracking](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/44565086)* documentation. **14 - Can I Trigger/Start Jenkins/Bamboo Builds from Xray?** It is possible via the *[Remote Jobs Triggering](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/44577316/TTT+-+Remote+Jobs+Triggering)* feature that is available in [Xray Enterprise](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/393183414/App+Editions). Why? ** There is no Requirement Work Item type installed by Xray. In fact, Xray does not install any requirement-related Work item types. If you have the opportunity to attend one of our [webinars](https://www.getxray.app/resources?cat=webinars), particularly one similar to the [Xray Cloud walkthrough](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCH71GC0wng), you will learn that, with Xray, you are able to define which Work item types Xray should consider as Requirements so you can cover them with Tests.  Besides the standard "Story" and "Epic" Jira Work item types, Jira allows you to create your own Work item types. You just need to configure Xray properly, as detailed [here](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/44565860/Quick+Setup#Configuring-Requirements-and-Defects), to let Xray internally treat those Work item types as “Requirements”. **16 - I'm Unable to See the Test Coverage Panel in my Work Items. Why? ** You need to ensure that your Work item type is configured to be handled as a Covered Work Item Type (i.e., a Testable entity). This can be done in *[Project Settings: Test Coverage](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/44566845)*. Also check out the *[Quick Setup](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/44565860)* (especially the *Configuring Requirements and Defect* section at the bottom) for an overview of the initial setup steps you need to follow. # Tests **17 - How do I Associate a Test with a Project Version?** Since Xray Work items are native to Jira, you could leverage the same fields/methods you use for other entities (e.g., *Fix Version* field). With that said, typically, the connection between a Test and a version is indirect. Although your Tests can be initially created to validate a Requirement for a specific version, they are often adjusted or re-executed for later versions as well. So, you would often want to track the project version at a higher level than Test (e.g., through Stories, Test Plans, or Test Executions). You may also have a look at *[Tips for implementing Test Versioning](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/44565095)* and *[Tips for Organizing & Planning Tests](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/659259394/Tips+for+Organizing+&+Planning+Tests)*. **18 - Does Xray Support Versioning of Tests?** Please refer to *[Tips for implementing Test Versioning](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/44565095)*. **19 - How do I Define which Tests Should be Used for Regression Testing?** Please take a look at *[Tips for Organizing & Planning Tests](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/659259394/Tips+for+Organizing+&+Planning+Tests#Good-Practices)*. **20 - Can I Link Tests to Other Tests?** Yes. You can create typical Jira links between Test Work items, as you would do for any standard Jira work item. Xray will not process those relationships in any special way; it will ignore them unless they are of the "Tests"/"is Tested by" type. However, depending on your use case, you may not want to leverage Jira links. Instead, it may be more beneficial to explore [Preconditions](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/44565159/Precondition) or [Modular Tests](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/44578265/Modular+Tests). # Test Sets **21 - Can I Clone a Test Set? Will that Clone the Tests that Belong to the Test Set?** You can clone an Xray [Test Set](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAYCLOUD/pages/44565163) (or any other entity except [Test Run](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAYCLOUD/pages/44565109)). Cloning a Test Set preserves the roster of Tests inside it, but does NOT clone the Tests - after the Test Set cloning, the same Test would simply have membership in two Test Sets. # Test Plans **22 - Do I Have to Use Test Plans?** You don’t have to, but there could be great advantages if you start using them. A [Test Plan](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAYCLOUD/pages/44565285) contains a list of Tests. For calculating the status of each Test, it takes into account Test Runs from Test Executions explicitly linked to the Test Plan. Please take a look at *[Tips for Organizing & Planning Tests](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/659259394/Tips+for+Organizing+&+Planning+Tests)*. **23 - Can I Clone Test Plans?** You can clone an Xray Test Plan (or any other entity except Test Run). Cloning will preserve the roster of Tests but will reset the execution statuses and will NOT preserve the links to Test Executions (if any). **24 - Can I Have Multiple Test Plans for a Version?** Yes, if you wish to track different groups of Tests (e.g., regression Tests *vs* Tests for new Requirements). # Test Executions **25 - How do I Create a Test Execution for all Failed Tests (or Other Test Statuses) of a Previous Execution?** You can do it easily within the Test Plan screen via the *Create Test Execution* button. You may also create a new [Test Execution](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAYCLOUD/pages/44565117) for some of the Tests listed in the table below the Filters. Select one or more Tests (you may use a filter to help you out) and then choose the action available in the button next to the bulk selection (e.g., "(xx) Selected"). **26 - Can I Run a Test Execution Multiple Times?** Within the same Test Execution entity, not really - you can overwrite the Test Run results, but from the reporting perspective, it will only show one run of that Test per Test Execution. To properly reflect your efforts and history, we recommend creating a new Test Execution Work item for subsequent runs (Xray Test Plan helps with that because you can select only a subset of Tests by Status, e.g., re-execute only the failed Tests). **27 - Do I Have to Use Test Environments?** No, but if you execute the same Tests in different environments, you certainly will find it as the [most useful and accurate way](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/44565129/Test+Environments) of testing a Requirement. **28 - Can I Take Screenshots and Attach them when Executing Tests?** Xray does not provide its own feature for taking screenshots. However, you may use a simple tool dedicated to taking screenshots (e.g., [LightShot](https://app.prntscr.com/)) and easily attach the screenshot to the [evidence section](https://docs.getxray.app/space/XRAYCLOUD/44565122/Execute+Tests#Evidence) during the execution of the Test. # Sub-Test Execution **29 - Can I Add a Sub-Test Execution to Multiple Coverable Work Items (e.g., Requirements)?** A sub-task can only have one parent Work item, so it won’t be possible to have multiple Requirement Work items with the same Sub-Test Execution. However, you can add Tests from another Requirement work item to a Sub-Test Execution. You’ll be able to execute them, but you are going to have the same behavior as the Test Execution, while using Agile Boards. So, if you intend to track the executions in the Agile Board, we recommend that you have a Sub-Test Execution for each coverable work item. **30 - Do I Have to Associate all Tests that are Testing a Coverable Work Item (e.g., Requirement) with a Sub-Test Execution?** The Tests already linked with the coverable Work item will be automatically added to the Sub-Test Execution. You can remove them if you want.
