# Testing Activities

## Writing and Organizing

Your daily Testing activities will primarily focus on two tasks: [writing or specifying Tests](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAYCLOUD/pages/44565047) and [organizing](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAYCLOUD/pages/44566566) them into lists using either [Test Sets](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAYCLOUD/pages/44565163) or the [Test Repository](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAYCLOUD/pages/44565166) (if you prefer to use folders).

When you create Tests, you will also [associate](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAYCLOUD/pages/44566527) each Test with the Requirement(s) it validates. This association is essential for calculating requirement coverage and generating the necessary [reports](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAYCLOUD/pages/338526916). Xray can validate any Issue Type, including Bugs, as long as they are configured as testable entities (i.e., as "requirements," according to the configuration in the [Quick Setup instructions](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAYCLOUD/pages/44565860)).

## Test Planning

Your [Testing plan](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAYCLOUD/pages/44565153) may be [more or less formal](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAYCLOUD/pages/44566361), but you will probably end up using Test Plans. By creating a Test Plan with all the relevant Tests for your release, you will be able to immediately track the status of those Tests and the associated requirements.

From that Test Plan, you will [schedule, assign, and execute Tests](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAYCLOUD/pages/44565037) by creating one or more Test Executions. Some of those tests might fail, so you will end up creating new or cloning existing Test Execution(s) until you have all your Requirements fully validated.

## QA-related Metrics

Xray provides [multiple ways to gather QA-related metrics](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAYCLOUD/pages/44566291) from your project so that when you decide to release, it will be a substantiated decision. Some of the popular options are:

- Consulting the specific panels of Tests/Test Sets/Test Plans/Test Executions.
- Using the [Reporting Center](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAYCLOUD/pages/338526916).
- Building out dashboards using [gadgets](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAYCLOUD/pages/44566250).
- Using specific [Document Generator templates](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAYCLOUD/pages/44565169), if you want fully customized reports as DOCX, XLSX, or PDF assets.
- Using the [Xporter app](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAYCLOUD/pages/44565148) and specific [Xporter templates](https://store.getxporter.app/?platf=JIRACLOUD&cats=1&sort=1&order=desc), if you want fully customized reports as DOCX, XLSX, or PDF assets.
