# Introduction

This page provides Xray administrators with guidance on managing API keys for interacting with Xray through its [REST API](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XRAYCLOUD/pages/44565892).

API keys allow each Jira user to have their own unique authentication credentials. By generating a **Client ID** and **Client Secret**, users can securely authenticate and make REST API requests. Once authenticated, all requests made using the API key will act on behalf of the specific user it is linked to, enabling seamless integration with Xray’s functionality while maintaining user-specific permissions and access levels.

This makes API keys a powerful tool for automating tasks, integrating Xray with other systems, and ensuring secure access to your Xray data.

### Creating an API Key

> > ℹ️ Use the copy icons (Figure 4 - 4; 5) to copy and save the Client ID and the Client Secret. This option is **only available in this moment, when these inputs are being generated**. Ensure that you save the Client ID and Client Secret at this time, by copying and saving them in a safe place, because you won't be able to access this information later on. If you lose these inputs, you will have to create a new API key from scratch.
