# Introduction

The [Xray Exploratory App](https://www.getxray.app/exploratory-testing) (Figure 1) is a free desktop-based Exploratory Testing Tool that works seamlessly integrated with Xray for Jira. It allows users to define exploratory testing sessions, record videos, capture and annotate screenshots, take notes, and much more. It [works integrated with Jira and Xray, but can also be used in a standalone mode](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XEA/pages/43483456) (Jira and Xray are not required).

With the [Xray Exploratory App](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XEA/overview), you can create Tests, run Test executions, and explore software testing.

The Xray Exploratory App desktop app is available, for free, for [Windows and macOS](https://exploratory.getxray.app/signup/).

> ℹ️ You need to [connect the Xray Exploratory App to Jira](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/XEA/pages/43483526) to work integrated with Xray. If you’re using the [Xray Exploratory App in standalone mode](https://getxraydocs.atlassian.net/wiki/display/XEA/Executing+an+Exploratory+Testing+session#ExecutinganExploratoryTestingsession-XrayExploratoryAppStandaloneMode), you don’t need to configure the connection.

# Executing a New Xray Exploratory App Testing Session Inside Xray
