App modes
This feature works in a different way depending on the App mode. Check more info about App modes at Xray Exploratory App Modes.
Create a New Session (Xray & Jira Integration)
- To create a new exploratory test, click the option Create New File
Type a name to the session file, select the workspace, choose Xray & Jira connection from the drop-down list, select the Jira project where you want to create the new test, and click Create New Session.
Selecting a Jira project is mandatory and needs to have the Xray issue types configured on your Jira instance.
Then complete the following fields before you start the session:

Timer | Set a time limit for your test session |
Test Type | The test type. Only generic tests are allowed |
Charter (Test definition) | The definition of your charter/test |
Test Execution |

Preconditions | Add preconditions to your test session |
Requirements | Select the requirements for your test |
Test Plans | Add your test to an existing test plan |
Mandatory fields
The fields represented with * are mandatory to fill when you are creating a new test session and the button Start session is available only if you fill all of them.
Create a New Session (Standalone Mode)
- To create a new exploratory test, click the option Create New File.
- Type a name to the session file, choose the workspace, select the Standalone, No Connection to Jira option, and click the option Create New Session.
Before you start your session you need to define/plan your session and this includes filling the fields that appear in this tab:
Field | Description |
---|---|
Title | The name of the charter |
Charter | The definition of the charter |
Timer | The time limit for your test session |
Preconditions | The preconditions definition for this charter |
After filling the fields you want, click Start Session, and then choose the window to record your session.
