Since Xray uses issue types in order to map the different testing entities, you can configure workflows to manage those entities. 

This will allow you to: 

  • Manage the lifecycle of tests specification, test execution and test plan. 
  • Create conditions or validators in order to control the status transition, for example, only users from a certain group can approve test specifications. 
  • Invoke post-functions when certain status statuses are met, such as notifying certain stakeholders or generate detailed reports

The first step is to design the workflow using JIRA Jira Administration > Issues > Workflows. 

After designing the workflow you should make active can active for your project, you . You do that by updating the workflow scheme.
