Since Xray uses issue types in order to map the different testing entities, you can configure workflows to manage those entities. This will allow you to: Manage the lifecycle of tests specification, test execution and test plan. Create conditions or validators in order to control the status transition, for example, only users from a certain group can approve test specifications. Invoke post-functions when certain status are met, such as notifying certain stakeholders or generate detailed reports

UI Step

The first step is to design the workflow using JIRA Administration > Issues > Workflows.

After designing the workflow you should make active for your project, you do that by updating the workflow scheme.

UI Step

Go to JIRA Administration > Manage Apps > Xray > Miscellaneous and check the several workflow related configurations.
