This article highlights the key benefits of updating the Xray Data Center app before migrating to the Cloud.

When performing migrations from Server or Data Center (DC) to Cloud using the Jira Cloud Migration Assistant (JCMA), we highly recommend updating to the latest version of Xray. Doing so helps avoid potential issues and ensures you benefit from all migration-related improvements. Below, we provide an overview of key Xray versions and their specific benefits for Cloud migration.

  • Version 7.2.0 and later: Starting with this version, there is no longer a need to grant the "Browse Projects" and "Edit Issues" permissions to "Any logged-in user." For earlier versions, these permissions must be granted for all projects being migrated to ensure the migration works properly.
  • Version 7.4.0: A major performance improvement pack was introduced, cutting migration time by approximately 50%. If you want to optimize your migration time, we strongly recommend updating to this version or newer.
  • Version 7.7.0 and later: This version allows the migration to ignore up to 100 missing issues and continue without interruption. In earlier versions, encountering even one missing issue would cause the migration to fail.
  • Starting on Xray version 7.8.2, the pre-migration of attachments is now supported by Xray. When creating a migration plan on JCMA and selecting the option "Attachments only", the Xray attachments will now be pre-migrated alongside the Jira attachments, greatly reducing the migration time when the actual projects are migrated later on.

To ensure a smooth and successful migration, we always advise running the migration on the latest Xray version to take advantage of the bug fixes and enhancements introduced in each version.
