When migrating Xray from a Jira Server/Data Center to the Cloud using JCMA (Jira Cloud Migration Assistant), it's essential to understand the impact of using S3 storage for attachments.
Key Considerations
- Xray and S3 Storage: Xray versions below 7.12.0 do not support Amazon S3 for attachment storage. So, if you migrate to the Cloud with a version below 7.12.0, you will encounter issues with attachments stored in S3.
Migration Behavior:
Attachments Created Before S3 Configuration: Any attachments created before the client configured S3 storage have been moved to S3. Since Xray cannot access attachments stored on S3, the Xray migration will not find these attachments.
Attachments Created After S3 Configuration: Attachments created after the client configured S3 storage behave differently. In these cases, Xray (by chance) can access and migrate the attachments.

Support for S3 storage has been added to Xray version 7.12.0. If you're planning a migration and using S3, it's strongly recommended that you upgrade to Xray 7.12.0 or later before proceeding.
