What is a Test?

Before anything else lets first understand what a "Test" is

In the test management world

In very simple terms, a Test is a sequence of steps coupled with conditions or variables, test inputs and an expected result. It is intended to establish the quality, performance or reliability of a piece of  system, i.e., test target.

Usually, every requirement or objective the test target is expected to achieve needs at least one Test.

The success of the Test is determined by comparing expected and actual results.

Below is a general overview of how the different objects connect.

Overview

In Jira

A Test is a issue of type "Test" in Jira on steroids.

To create a Test as you able to see it will be just like creating an issue, the type of test we create will then be a case of what you choose in the moment of the "issue" creation.

Pro Tip

Xray leverages all of the potential of Jira objects in its implementation, and most Xray Test Management elements are standard Jira objects.

Yes -  You're at the start of learning to use Xray but because of this commonality with Jira, Xray will come naturally to you! (smile)
