Overview
As an Xray administrator, you can create custom Test Run statuses. These statuses can only be applied to Test Run overall results. Test step results can't be changed to custom statuses. Each status can have a name, description, marked final and have a specific color (Figure 2).
Operations
Creating a Custom Test Status
On your Jira Cloud instance, click the administration/gear icon (Figure 1 - 1). Then, select Apps (Figure 1 - 2).
A menu will open on the left side. There, click Test Statuses (Figure 1 - 3).

To create a new Test status, go to Add New Test Status (Figure 2 - 4) and:
- Insert a name (mandatory field).
- Pick a color (mandatory field).
- Select a Test coverage status (mandatory field).
- Add a description (optional).
- Choose if the Test status is final or not by using the box (Figure 2 - 5).
- Select to enable the Test status for all projects (Figure 2 - 6) or select a project (Figure 2 - 7).
- Once you're finished, click Add (Figure 2 - 8), and the new Test status will appear on the Test statuses table (Figure 2 - 1).
You can edit/delete the newly added Test statuses at any time by clicking the Edit/Delete button (Figure 2 - 3). All existing custom statuses can be modified. More below.
Enabling/Disabling a Test Status
Click View projects (Figure 2 - 2). A new screen will open (Figure 3).
Here you can see which project(s) (Figure 3 - 1) have this Test status enabled. Use the corresponding toggle (Figure 3 - 2) to enable or disable the Test status at any time for each individual project.

When disabling a Status, a modal will open (Figure 4) for you to confirm the operation. Click Save to proceed (Figure 4 - 1), and the changes will take effect immediately.

Migration of In-use Statuses
When a Test status is in use and you are trying to toggle it off, you will need to select another status (Figure 5 - 1) to take its place. Click Save to proceed (Figure 5 - 2), and the changes will take effect immediately.

Editing a Custom Test Status
- Native Test Run statuses can't be modified or deleted.
- You can edit the projects for which a given status is available.
On your Jira Cloud instance, click the administration/gear icon (Figure 6 - 1). Then, select Apps (Figure 6 - 2).
A menu will open on the left side. There, click Test Statuses (Figure 6 - 3).

The Test Statuses screen will open (Figure 7). Click Edit (Figure 7 - 3) on the respective custom status to modify it.

All the fields can be edited (Figure 8):
- Name (Figure 8 - 1): insert a new name.
- Description (Figure 8 - 2): type a new description.
- Final (Figure 8 - 3): use the box to define wether the custom status is final or not.
- Color (Figure 8 - 3): click the colored square to select a different color.
- Test coverage status (Figure 8 - 4): use the dropdown to choose a Test Run status.

Once you're done, click Save (Figure 8 - 5) to confirm the changes or Cancel (Figure 8 - 5) to go back to editing. The confirmed changes will become effective immediately.
Deleting a Custom Test Status
If you delete a status and there are Test Runs in this particular status, then you'll be prompted for a migration status field to update the affected Test Runs.
On your Jira Cloud instance, click the administration/gear icon (Figure 6 - 1). Then, select Apps (Figure 6 - 2).
A menu will open on the left side. There, click Test Statuses (Figure 6 - 3).
The Test Statuses screen will open (Figure 7). Click Delete (Figure 7 - 3) on the respective custom status to remove it.
A modal will open (Figure 9).
Click Delete (Figure 9 - 1) to confirm the removal of the custom Test status, and it will be deleted immediately.
